Ride for the future, Bike for peace.
Swiss mountains connected with the Thousand Hills of Rwanda
Let's build a promising future for Rwanda's youth
The project develops a programme for young people from the age of 16 onwards which will enable them to acquire, alongside the know-how of bicycle manufacture, maintenance and repair, skills in a variety of services such as bicycle tourism, marketing, sales, logistics, accounting and IT (office automation, website, promotion on social networks). Our action consists in providing the necessary means (infrastructure and knowledge) to the youth trained in the framework of the project so that they become autonomous.
Our objectives
Mixed training workshop
Repair all types of bicycles, design and manufacture custom bamboo bicycles through the fields of mechanics, carpentry and welding.
Training in the administrative field
Learn to manage a project from A to Z and become familiar with computer tools.
Participatory mechanical workshops
Bicycles are a fast (compared to the kilometres walked by many Africans), environmentally friendly, healthy, social and fashionable means of transport. To counter the difficulties encountered in the villages, both for transporting goods and crops, and for children to get to school.
Setting up a green project
Promotion of a 100% Made In Rwanda product (bamboo bicycles) that respects fundamental principles : respect and awareness of the environment, training for young people and future prospects, innovation and employment.
Promotion of soft mobility
Inter-country and inter-generational sports and cultural events, weekly meetings: bicycle outings, learning to ride a bicycle for locals and improving cohabitation with motorists

The birth of the project
The idea for the Ride for the Future project was born while cycling solo across Africa. On her way, Joëlle Huguenin encountered several mechanical problems and realised the need to be able to offer quality services around the bicycle and to obtain the spare parts to change them. What touched her most while constantly sleeping in the homes of local people were the young people who were discouraged by not being able to follow a training course and quickly realised that they would have no future prospects.
